• If you are using rat poison, can you be sure other animals and people aren’t harmed? One of the key problems with self-treating is that you can’t be sure whether you will end up harming something, or someone, unintentionally, especially if you are unfamiliar with pest control.

• What about traps? Again, although different, traps are extremely dangerous pieces of kit and, as such, you must take great care when setting them up as to not harm anything else in the process.

• If you catch something, will you be able to deal with it? Pest control is not for the faint-hearted or weak-stomached. If you don’t think you will be able to deal with what you have caught, especially if it’s alive, it’s best to call in a professional.
